A casual conversation about grit and its place in today's schools
Grit in the Classroom: Building Perseverance for Excellence in Today's Students is focused on what it means to be gritty and why it's important to cultivate grittiness in our students. Each chapter includes stories to illustrate the research and ideas presented and ends with discussion questions that can be used to continue the conversation.
Grit in the Classroom is an educational and thought-provoking read, but it's also lighthearted, fun, and realistic. I wrote this for the wide-eyed first year teacher earnestly trying to do his best to the veteran who wants to understand why her smart and capable students want to give up when the content gets too difficult.
My hope is that you read this and are inspired and encouraged, that you understand that your work is hard but oh so important, and that you realize that helping your students cultivate grit is a timeless gift you can give them.
